Special Openings by the Volunteers for Art and “Visioni D’Arte” in 3D on the Occasion of Vinum

After the Cathedral of San Lorenzo and the now-lost church of Santa Maria del Ponte, the Church of San Giovanni Battista is the oldest church in Alba. From its early medieval origins, the building has undergone numerous reconstructions and restorations over the centuries, and today it is considered the city’s gallery of sacred art.

Beyond its religious and devotional value, the parish church of San Giovanni is a true treasure chest of artworks, bearing important witness to Piedmont’s cultural vitality: from the precious panel of the Madonna of the Milk, painted in 1377 by Barnaba da Modena; to the altarpiece by Macrino d’Alba, created in 1508; and the canvas depicting the Baptism of Christ by the painter Giovanni Antonio Molineri from Savigliano, to name just a few.

The Parish, the San Giovanni Cultural Association, and Turismo in Langa, in collaboration with the Association of Volunteers for Art and the Diocesan Museum of Alba, invite you to discover and appreciate this rich historical and artistic heritage during the Vinum weekends. The church will be staffed by volunteers who will welcome visitors and provide useful information, supported by explanatory panels and an audio guide system accessible via QR code.

You can also experience “Visioni d’Arte” and explore the artworks of the Church of San Giovanni Battista in Alba through an immersive experience using 3D headsets at the adjacent Spazio San Giovanni (entrance from the cloister). Art as you’ve never seen it before!
The experience will be available on Sundays, April 26 and May 3 at 4:00 pm. Advance booking is strongly recommended (maximum 15 participants).

For groups and guided visits at different times, the experience is available upon request and by reservation.

The cost is 2 euros per person for headset rental; afterwards, visitors can view the artworks inside the church with the Volunteers for Art.
