Just Open Your Eyes – Art and Environmental Reflection at the Castle of Roddi
The exhibition “Just Open Your Eyes” will inaugurate the 2026 edition of the Sustainability EXPO, a widespread and dynamic platform of events and initiatives dedicated to sustainable development, involving 12 cities across Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta.
The exhibition will be open with free admission from April 18 to May 24 at the Castle of Roddi (CN) and represents one of the flagship events of the fourth edition of the EXPO, scheduled between April and May 2026 with more than twenty-five days of activities, including school meetings, public events, a space dedicated to startups, and awards for the most virtuous municipalities.
The exhibition presents a journey combining art and environmental awareness, guiding visitors through a path of fears, awareness, and the possibility of change. The route unfolds in three parts: an initial, darker section recalling the nightmares and anxieties related to the environmental crisis; a second section focused on awakening and awareness; and a final part calling for action and responsibility toward the planet’s future.
At the center of the exhibition is the artwork “Lilith” by artist Valerio Berruti, a video animation recently presented at Palazzo Reale in Milan. It tells the story of a young girl struggling with a nightmare that becomes a metaphor for the anxieties of our time, particularly those linked to climate change. The work will be showcased both inside and outside the Castle of Roddi.
Outside, the video will be projected in a continuous loop on the castle façade, turning the historic walls into a vast narrative surface visible from afar.
Inside the castle, visitors will be able to view some of the original frames from the animation, displayed as standalone artworks that allow a closer look at the creative process and the construction of the visual narrative. The video—accompanied by an original soundtrack composed specifically for the piece by musician and multi-instrumentalist Rodrigo D’Erasmo—will also be shown within the exhibition space, completing the immersive experience.
“Just Open Your Eyes” thus becomes a simple yet powerful invitation: to open our eyes to the present in order to imagine a more sustainable future, using the language of art to make complex environmental issues more accessible and engaging.
