– Castle tour
At the end of the 1970s, the castle was bought by the Giulio Einaudi publishing house, which made it its secondary headquarters, twinned with the one in Via Biancamano in Turin, and a working residence for its writers (including Primo Levi, to whom the small square under the walls in Perno was recently dedicated).
Since 2012, the Castle has been owned by Prof. Gregorio Gitti, professor of civil law at the University of Milan and a lawyer in the Lombard capital. From the very beginning, the Gitti family’s project was twofold: to restore Perno Castle to its history, both the more recent history of a home for culture and the more ancient history of vine cultivation and winemaking of the estate’s grapes.
Due to renovation work the cellar is not open to visitors.
Large steel tanks host the winemaking process of the grapes, previously picked up by a careful manual choice in the vineyard, interpreting each vintage in absolute respect for the variety of what our terroir offers.
The Barolo philosophy, pursued through the barrels of ten and twenty hectoliters of French and Slavonian oak, translates the maturation of the Langhe DOC Nebbiolo to its maximum expression, while the large fifty hectoliters barrels of Austrian oak Stockinger refine our Barolo DOCG Castelletto and Perno, true protagonists of the territory.
Quality and neo-classical style marry tradition in the continuous research for specific and innovative techniques, with the aim of producing fine and territorial wines, perfectly recognizable and well balanced.
