Visit to the cellar Piazzo Comm. Armando.

At the end of the tour the Michelin star chef Francesco Oberto will prepare an aperitif on site, to be served in combination with the most representative wines from the hosting cellar.

The visit includes:
– Roundtrip transport by minibus. Departure at 04.00 p.m. from Piazza Medford (Palazzo Mostre e Congressi “G. Morra”), return to Alba approximately at 7.00 p.m..
– Wine tasting and aperitif with the chef
– Wine cellar tour


Francesco Oberto
A starred chef born in 1986. He has worked for six years in the Agenzia di Pollenzo before opening his own tavern in Bra and a restaurant that bears his name. The transition from simple innkeeper to star chef has been gradual and the Michelin star, awarded by the prestigious guide, represents the pinnacle of a life path made of sacrifices and total commitment to find one’s way in haute cuisine. Francesco Oberto, Michelin Guide chef since 2016, collaborates with the most renowned and important suppliers of the Langhe and Roero area and makes an accurate selection in his mix of revisited traditional dishes and more inventive modern creations.

Azienda Vitivinicola Piazzo Comm. Armando
The history of Azienda Piazzo began in the 1960s in San Rocco Seno d’Elvio, a small village in the municipality of Alba. Armando Piazzo and Gemma Veglia are a young newlywed couple who came from wine-growing families and who, always together, decided to follow their family traditions by investing in a special area, the Langhe, at the time not yet renowned for its food and wine excellence.
Their long-term vision led them to invest in the grape variety that today is the basis of some of the most popular wines in the world: Nebbiolo.
Over the years many lands were purchased and converted to this wine production. This went on until 1979, when the first grapes in which so much trust had been placed were ready and, withi three years, those grapes would carry the Barbaresco name. When their daughter Marina and her husband Franco joined Armando and Gemma in the management of the company they also became passionate about this beautiful reality which was gradually being consolidated, and thanks to their enthusiasm, they made some improvements which culminated in 1985 with the birth of the first Barolo, another source of pride for the Piazzo family.
Along with the fame also the area has grown. Today it covers over 70 hectares entirely cultivated with vineyards, located mostly close to the company but not only nearby: Mango, Neviglie, Guarene and Novello are the municipalities where the other vineyards are located. In 2007 the family business was definitively handed over to their daughter Marina who, together with Franco, tried to follow in her parents’ footsteps. After a short time, Simone and Marco – the couple’s children – also joined the company and after completing their studies at the “Umberto I” School of Oenology in Alba, they began to integrate innovative ideas and techniques with the experience of previous generations.
Thus, the philosophy of the Piazzo Company was created: eyes focused on the future and feet firmly rooted in tradition to produce wines which are the truest expression of all. Therefore, today, Azienda Vitivinicola Piazzo can boast the production of the most representative wines of the Langhe and Roero tradition which, along with the already mentioned Barbaresco and Barolo, also includes Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d’Alba, Dolcetto d’Alba, Roero Arneis, Piemonte Chardonnay, Moscato Asti and two more innovative products for the area, a classic method sparkling wine based on Nebbiolo “MasSìm” and a purity Merlot.

“THE GREEN EXPERIENCE” SUSTAINABLE VITICULTURE

The Coldiretti Cuneo project “The Green Experience”, aims to spread a quality oriented viticulture increasingly sustainable and global. A project conceived by the producers for the consumer and for a healthy and welcoming environment in the area recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014.

The Green Experience is also a brand that certifies grapes and wines of Piedmont, obtained with sustainability criteria aimed at the conservation of natural resources, the balance of the ecosystem, biodiversity, health and care of the landscape, all included in a specification certified by a third party.

The Green Experience is fulfilling the dream of enjoying toeether with the final consumer a kind od viticulture which is increasingly “good to drink and to look at”.
